Second year Day 26 - Tuesday January 8, 2013
We have a book called Help for Language. The purpose of the book...."Improve understanding of abstract and ambiguous language by interpreting subtle meanings; discriminating between literal and rhetorical questions; explaining metaphors, proverbs, and similes; and explaining oxymorons and meanings of intonations." It has all kinds of different exercises in it that Bridgett does. We are getting back pretty far in the book and for the past few days they have been these kinds of exercises. First they will give her a problem to solve and then ask her to tell me how she would deal with it. For example....you just found out you are going to move, what would you tell your boss. Or, you bought a pair of shoes and need to return them because they are too tight, what would you tell the sales clerk. It's been fun to do these with Bridgett because she has the best answers. For instance, the question....you teacher says there is a pop quiz on some material that they never assigned for you to study, what do you tell them. She says.....excuse me professor. You assigned us to study chapter 26 sections A-F, not G-P. It's so funny that she so specifically tells what she studied!
