From time to time I like to post about something Bridgett is doing to help her heal, in hopes that it can help someone else at some point. Anyway, today I was going to tell you about a couple of things....bee pollen and MCT Gold. Every day I make Bridgett a protein smoothie. I got a great recipe from the Green Tea House in Whitefish (actually they published it in a magazine) for a smoothie they call liquid gold. Here is the recipe....
Liquid Gold Smoothie
1 frozen banana
1 tsp maca
1 tsp ground flax (I use flax oil)
1 tsp bee pollen (I use more--see notes below)
1 Tbsp raw almond butter
2 Tbsp chai protein hemp powder (or choice of protein powder)
1/4 c. ice (I don't add ice)
10-12 oz. hemp milk (I use coconut milk)
Anyway, I have been giving Bridgett this every morning for quite some time. All the time I have been increasing the amount of bee pollen, so that now she has about two TBSP. The healing benefits of bee pollen are amazing to say the least. Of course, you do have to start out with a small amount and build up slowly to make sure that the person doesn't have an allergy. Another thing we have been doing...MCT Gold 100% Medium Chain Triglycerides. There is a bunch of research on coconut oil for improving brain function. I was trying to add as much coconut oil as I could to her food until she passed out and hit her head back in February. At that point we had such a hard time getting any food down her, so there was nothing to add coconut oil to. Anyway, at some point I was told about the MCT. This is the part of the coconut oil that really helps and it's in a liquid form so it's easier to use. I just give Bridgett two dropperfuls every several hours or so, so that it is spread throughout the day. I do miss sometimes, like when we are in town for appointments. But, overall we are pretty consistent about it and I notice improvements in cognition. For more information on the research check out this website link:
