Second year Day 13 - Wednesday December 26, 2012
Bridgett asks many questions a day--trying to figure everything out again. For a couple of weeks she has been asking how many feet are in a mile. Today she turned to me during breakfast and said there's 5,280 feet in a mile you know. She remembered! Yes! So, we know that she remembers things that happen that impress her mind for whatever reason (like throwing up in the taxi or seeing the Statue of Liberty). Now, we see her remembering facts that she has learned. This is important when we think of her being able to go back to school again! Today I got the best letter from Courtney's mom, Penny. Remember they are the great people that we met at the U of U inpatient rehab in Salt Lake. Courtney had a TBI in October and was getting released from the rehab just a couple of days after Bridgett was admitted. We try to stay in touch with each other. Penny has been a great support to me through all of this. There are only so many people that can really understand what life is like for a caregiver of a TBI survivor. I cried all through the letter; it was great! Courtney sent Bridgett a wonderful picture of a girl being held in the arms of the Savior....just like they were during their comas. It made me cry! Bridgett loves the picture and it has a special place where she can see it daily now.
