Second year Day 68 - Tuesday February 19, 2013
Today I was all set to go into town and take care of the flash drive accountant's copy of Quick Books and then Stephany was much worse and I didn't go. I spent the morning downstairs with her and finally convinced her that she needed to either go to the emergency room or to see Michelle Helwig (at Bigfork Family Practice) for her opinion. We headed to Michelle's without an appointment at about 12:45. We had to wait a half an hour to see her, at which point she said that it was either an ovarian cyst or appendicitis. I had already decided that much and Stephany and I had talked about it before leaving home, as one of the reasons I felt she needed to see a doctor. Anyway, Michelle sent us to Kalispell Regional to have blood drawn, plus a CT of the belly, with contrast, so Stephany had to drink that yucky barium drink and also have an iodine IV during the CT. After the CT was read, we waited for the results and finally found out that she had a bleeding ovarian cyst with blood in the belly. This necessitated surgery, which was done by Dr. Rogers. He did laparoscopy and so that was great---no big incision like Bridgett had. He was able to remove the bleeding cyst and the ovary is just fine (thank goodness!). There was no torsion (twist of the ovary--which is what caused Bridgett to lose her ovary as well). Of course, we all were wondering, after Bridgett's experience. He had to do a lavage to clean up the belly and get rid of the blood. She had 100 cc of fresh blood, and had older blood as well; apparently she had been bleeding for a few days. Anyway, she came through like a trooper. It was a little bit of an anxious wait for me, which was softened by Scott remaining with me the entire time--thanks Scott! Mark was home with Bridgett and was unable to come up right away. Of course, Bridgett's first words--I know the pain--which is true! She's funny about that--she kept saying that to Jenn after her c-section regarding laughing after an incision etc. She was very sad for Stephany and very consoling. Mark was able to come up after the operation and arrived just after Stephany was brought down from recovery. He and Scott visited with her for a while until she was ready to go to sleep and then they both headed home about 11:00. I stayed the night with Stephany.
