I luckily have had the chance to do some reading lately. I love to read! Today I picked up a short book I bought for the girls just after the accident. It's called When Times are Tough by John Bytheway: 5 Scriptures That Will Help You Get through Almost Anything. The first scripture that Brother Bytheway identifies is 1 Nephi 11:17, which says (We) know that (God) loveth his children. He say we don't have all the answers to explain all tragedies that occur in the world, but we do know that God loves His children. Brother Bytheway says that we waste time asking ourselves, "why did this happen or why doesn't God care about me." Instead we should ask "what can I learn from this experience?"
He then quotes Elder Richard G. Scott saying the following:
"When you face adversity, you can be led to ask many questions. Some serve a useful purpose; others do not. To ask, why does this have to happen to me? Why do I have to suffer this, now? What have I done to cause this? will lead you into blind alleys. It really does no good to ask questions that reflect opposition to the will of God. Rather ask, What am I to do? What am I to learn from this experience? What am I to change? Whom am I to help? How can I remember my many blessings in times of trial? Willing sacrifice of deeply held personal desires in favor of the will of God is very hard to do. Yet, when you pray with real conviction, 'Please le me know Thy will' and 'May Thy will be done' you are in the strongest position to receive the maximum help from your loving Father."
This is a really good book and a short read. I can highly recommend it for everyone. There is a great section on marriage and another on family relationships. Also, scriptures to motivate you and to strengthen faith.
